Atlantik Care: a brand committed
to the ocean
Created in Cap Ferret, close to the ocean, Atlantik Care was born from the desire of its founders to create a brand of cosmetic products for the ocean. Their idea was to design products based on active ingredients derived directly from the marine environment, whose benefits are proven and developed in a research and development laboratory (the Art & Cos laboratory in Pouillon in Nouvelle Aquitaine). The project is part of a circular economy scheme to give back to the sea what it gives us every day. The founders also wish to donate part of their profits to associations or organizations that help protect our oceans and their ecosystem.
After having developed a range of cosmetics for men and women, Atlantik Care also includes protective creams for the skin, oils and soaps. With the aim of moving closer to the research and development laboratory, but also to develop their own production tool within 3 years, the founders logically wished to move closer to the Basque Country for their company establishment, a dynamic territory in the well-being sector. Basque Invest made this move possible, which is key to the company’s development.
Committed to the blue economy, Atlantik Care turned to the Basque Country for several reasons. First of all, they needed to be close to their research and development laboratory, as well as to their favorite element: the ocean. There are many cosmetics brands based in the Basque Country that are committed to limiting their environmental impact, particularly on the marine ecosystem: Laboratoires de Biarritz, Alaena Cosmétiques, etc. There is a real state of mind and awareness in the Basque Country about preserving our environment.
The Basque Country is an economically dynamic area, as shown by the many technology parks or business incubators, which make it easier for a young company or start-up to establish itself in the area, by building up a network and creating business synergies. The possibility of getting help from the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, the Bayonne CCI (Chamber of Commerce and Industry), or even structures such as Basque Invest, make this a particularly attractive region to set up a business.
After making contact on the Basque Invest website, the founders of Atlantik Care were put in touch with François Applagnat in order to support them in setting up their business. Together with Christine Perguilhem, from the “Business Creation” department of the Bayonne CCI, François helped them structure their company, their capital and their financing plan. They also benefited from contacts with banks, help in putting together a file for the Bultza grant, and a search for premises in the area.
Finally, Atlantik Care wishes to create a production tool in the next 3 years: Basque Invest is helping them to find financing for this strategic step in their development.
